LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) President Shehbaz Sharif has said it is unfair to question the patriotism of three-time prime minister Nawaz Sharif.

Shehbaz, who is also Nawaz’s younger brother, said this on Thursday while responding to a question regarding the former PM’s controversial interview which was quoted by Indian attorney at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to defend India’s stance in convicted spy Kulbhushan Jadhav case.

In the said interview that appeared in the wake of his disqualification by the apex court, the former premier had said people went from Pakistan to carry out November 26, 2008, deadly terror attacks that left more than 170 people dead.

Shehbaz, however, refused to answer any more questions with regard to the ICJ proceedings. “My mother and I are here (at the Jinnah Hospital) to inquire about the health of Nawaz Sharif,” he said.

Nawaz Sharif, who is serving seven-year imprisonment after his conviction in a graft case, is currently admitted to Lahore’s Jinnah Hospital for heart treatment.

The PML-N spokesperson Marriyum Aurangzeb also condemned ‘the resurgence of a misleading smear campaign against Nawaz Sharif’ and said those doubting his patriotism are the most unpatriotic of Pakistanis.

“For the third time, the same propaganda machine is working overtime to defile the three-time prime minister of Pakistan with a tsunami of lies and misquotations.

“Nawaz does not need verbal defence or to prove his devotion and commitment to Pakistan and the glory of Islam because the actions taken during his term in office speak volumes,” she said

She said not only did the PML-N supreme leader stood against all odds to make Pakistan a nuclear power but he also made the biggest contribution to put Pakistan on the path of prosperity.

“This wave of propaganda will die down just like the previous one because it is based on lies. The people of Pakistan know best who Nawaz Sharif is and what he stands for which is why they rejected all such allegations in the past and they will not buy this pack of lies this time as well,” she concluded.

Nawaz’s health condition

Shehbaz Sharif also did not respond to questions about the Sharif family’s plan regarding Nawaz Sharif angiography and all parties’ alliance. Maryam Nawaz, who was also accompanying Shehbaz, also refused to answer any questions.

Dr Adnan, Nawaz’s personal physician, said the hospital administration was waiting for government instructions as the specialised medical board had already sent its recommendations to the government.

He said Nawaz Sharif’s treatment was not a straightforward treatment as the former PM has a history of medical complications. “Nawaz Sharif should be treated in a hospital where state of the art medical facilities is present.”

He said it was not in his knowledge if the former PM was being moved to Rawalpindi. To a question regarding any need to shift Nawaz Sharif to London for better treatment, he said it was up to the doctors to decide, where Nawaz Sharif can be provided better facilities.

A special medical board on Tuesday sent its recommendations to the government.
