A consensus on this was developed during the fourth international conference on education which concluded at the Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) on Thursday. The conference had been organised by the university's faculty of education to highlight the existing practices and future challenges in the field of academic research.
The conference adopted a set of recommendations to make the prevailing educational system more effective and meaningful apart from having a positive impact on society's overall development.
AIOU Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Ziaul Qayyum in his message hoped that the conference's recommendations will set a future course towards a meaningful education system that helps the country to address its socio-economic problems.
During the two-day deliberations, a number of research-based papers were presented in 16 parallel sessions.
There was a consensus amongst the participants that a values-based education system should be developed to bring about a positive change in society. They also emphasized on linking academic research practices with the overall socio-economic development of the country.
Consultant to the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Professor Dr Mahmoodul Hasan Butt spoke about the important role of educational institutions and teachers who were educating the new generation in line with the new challenges and the needs of the country.
AIOU Dean Education Prof Dr Nasir Mahmood thanked the participants for their active and positive contribution in making the conference’s deliberations worthwhile for transforming the learning and teaching practices.
The event was attended by academics, researchers and students of 26 universities from different countries.
