QUETTA: Minister for Local Government Sardar Saleh Bhootani has said that the provincial government has expanded the jurisdiction of Quetta Metropolitan Corporation (QMC) to develop the rural and urban vicinities of the provincial capital.

The minister was speaking at the launch of a cleanliness campaign in a newly-inducted union council of QMC.

After strenuous efforts the government had successfully expanded the jurisdiction of the corporation, he said, adding that development projects were under way for rural and urban areas.

“The government has decided to release Rs1 billion for the development of four new union councils, while efforts are afoot to restore the beauty of Quetta city,” Bhootani said and called for public support in keeping the city neat and clean.

Slamming past rulers for “ignoring Quetta”, he said as many as 1,400 new appointments were made without any performance. Thus, he said the government had sacked all employees found neglecting their duties.

The minister said, “Billions of rupees were released for the development of Quetta but on ground the citizens didn’t witness any development.”

Adviser to CM Naeem Bazai, Local Government Secretary Qambar Dashti, QMC Administrator Farooq Langove and the corporation’s officials were present on the occasion.

The adviser said the government was taking speedy steps for providing relief to the masses and negligence would not be tolerated in any development project.
