NHMP cracks down on public transport vehicle violations

Officials were directed to take strict action against motorcyclists without helmets

The National Highways and Motorways Police (NHMP) has initiated strict action against traffic violations made by public transport vehicles.

NHMP Deputy Inspector General Ahmad Arsalan Malik expressed these remarks while reviewing the performance of the central zone in relation to the special campaign against public service vehicles on Thursday. He directed all sector and beat commanders to initiate stern legal action against violators and to impose fines on such vehicles.

He also directed officials to take all the necessary measures to reduce traffic violations by public service vehicles and ordered officials to impound the vehicles of those found violating laws.

The DIG added that stern action will be taken against public transport vehicles involved in road accidents and traffic violations. Malik directed the officers to adopt a zero tolerance policy against those without helmets, over speeding, flouting lane discipline and overloading goods and passengers.

After analyzing the performance of the last three months, Malik asked officers to take substantive steps to reduce accident on highways which result in the loss of precious lives, cause permanent disability and major injuries.

He directed officials to take strict action against motorcyclists without helmets which are a major contributing factor to accidents on highways. Similarly, he also directed that meaningful action in the form of heavy fines and impounding of vehicles be initiated against those over speeding, over loading and flouting lane discipline rules. Malik also ordered that everybody be penalized under the law, irrespective of their status.
