RAWALPINDI: Young doctors in Rawalpindi have turned down a proposal from the Punjab government to restore Dr Tariq Niazi to the hospital but with a demotion.

Representatives of the Young Doctors Association (YDA) at the Benazir Bhutto General Hospital (BBH) have said that they will not accept anything less than Dr Niazi’s restoration as the medical superintendent (MS) of the hospital and to have an inquiry against him quashed.

YDA BBH Wing President Dr Rana Muhammad Azeem said that the Punjab government, to save face on behalf of Punjab Law Minister Raja Basharat, cannot restore Dr Niazi as the MS of the hospital.

Reiterating that this was political interference in the affairs of the hospital, Dr Azeem said that they will not tolerate such moves.

He added that they will act on whatever the provincial chapter of YDA decides on the matter. And if their demands are not accepted by the government, they will intensify their protests.
