Isra University confers degrees upon 214 students

You must uphold the country's image and let the world know we are a peaceful nation, says VC Dr Abdul Rashid Shaikh

KARACHI: Isra University awarded on Saturday degrees to 214 students from the faculty of Medical Sciences and Allied Sciences at the varsity's 4th convocation.

Chancellor Dr Asadullah Kazi said that learning was a life-long process that continues from the cradle to the grave. "There can be no development without participation and there can be no participation without communication in this age of digital literacy".

He said, "Globalisation is there, whether we like it or not, we have to get ready for this". He advised the students to take note of the opportunities awaiting them. "This day marks the commencement of your new career". He said that he was sure that while each student had different dreams and aspirations, they would surely never give them up.



Asadullah said their aspirations will drive them to higher levels of achievements. "Make your life purposeful and prove to the society that you have worked honourably and diligently to the best of your capability, in uplifting the image of your country, and your alma mater," he said. "You must give purpose to your lives. It is not honourable enough to only think about yourself, but work for the community that has done everything for you," he added.

The president of the Isra Islamic Foundation, Dr Ghulam Qadir Kazi, said that the main purpose of such events was not only to confer degrees on the students but also to honour those who have performed meritoriously.

He advised the students to work hard to achieve their goals. "It does not take great men to do things, but it is doing things that makes men great," he said. "I want you to become great, as we have high hopes from you. You are the leaders of tomorrow," he added.

Ghulam said, "Knowledge inculcates a sense of responsibility and accountability". He added, "I hope that the graduating students demonstrate this purpose of the knowledge and will emerge as torch-bearers of truth".

The university Vice-Chancellor Dr Abdul Rashid Shaikh said, "You must uphold the image of our country. Let the world know that we are a peaceful nation".



During the ceremony, the varsity conferred 158 bachelor's degrees in Medical Sciences, Vision Sciences (VS) and Physical Therapy and 55 post-graduate degrees in different programs of medical and allied medical sciences.

Medals awarded

Students excelling in their studies were awarded gold, silver and bronze medals. Kamran Iftikar, a graduate of MBBS programme, Rabia Siddique Ahmed, a graduate of DPT programme, and Anam, a graduate of BS VS programme, were awarded gold medals. Samim, a graduate of MBBS programme, Khajetatulain Sandela, a graduate of DPT programme, and Aysha Kazi, a graduate of BS VS programme, received silver medals for their accomplishments. Similarly, Noureen, a graduate of MBBS programme, and Priyanka, a graduate of BS VS programme, received were awarded bronze medals.
