Previous governments ruined the railway department, says minister

Federal Railways Minister Sheikh Rasheed has reiterated that he became a member of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on the directives of Prime Minister Imran Khan.

Addressing a news conference in Lahore, Rasheed said that, "I can challenge that a speaker has no authority in PAC," said Rasheed, adding that all these measures are meant for escaping from the country.

National Reconciliation Ordinance NRO will not be granted to Zardari or Nawaz, Rasheed reiterated.

“A common man is paying in terms of high gas and electricity bills for the loot and plundering carried out by the previous governments,” said Rasheed.

The government did not protest against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader Aleem Khan's arrest by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB), the minister went on to add.

The railway minister announced that freights trains will be increased to 20 during the ongoing year, lauding the efficiency of the railways, Rasheed that there is currently 90 per cent punctuality in the railway department.

We are recovering 6 crore rupees per week, Rasheed said, adding that "The numbers of those who previously travelled without purchasing a ticket has dropped by 73 per cent."

Four new trains are in pipeline, the railway minister announced and added that the previous governments ruined railway department.

"We will assure cleanliness and greenness," said Rasheed.

First VIP train will run from Lahore to Karachi on March 20, and the renovation of Lahore station will be inaugurated on March 30

Prime Minister Imran Khan will inaugurate Thal Express on February 12, the minister announced.
