CJP constitutes new bench in Asghar Khan case

Previous bench was dissolved after retirement of former CJP Nisar

ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan Asif Saeed Khosa has constituted a new bench for hearing the Asghar Khan case.

The previous bench hearing the case stood dissolved after the retirement of former CJP Mian Saqib Nisar.

A three-member bench, headed by Justice Gulzar Ahmed, will hear the case on Monday.

The matter of distributing millions of rupees among politicians to topple the Pakistan Peoples Party government through the Islami Jamhoori Ittehad will be taken up.

Asghar Khan’s family repudiates FIA recommendation to close 2012 case

With the constitution of the new bench, the Asghar Khan case has been scheduled for hearing on February 11.

Two other members of the bench will be Justice Faisal Arab and Justice Ijazul Ahsan.

The Supreme Court has issued notices to the attorney general, DG FIA and other respondents for the hearing while notices have also been issued to the children of late Asghar Khan.

On December 29, the FIA recommended closing the case owing to incomplete evidences in the case.

Former CJP Nisar had rejected the FIA’s recommendation while hearing the case on the January 11.

On the next hearing, the FIA will present the progress report in the matter.
