ISLAMABAD  : Private tour operators on Friday decided to lower Hajj package rates for customers, making privately packages cheaper than government-sponsored schemes, reported Express News.

As a result of the decision, the tentative cost of private packages will be around Rs380,000.

A representative of the private tour operators association stated that the government blamed the high cost of Hajj packages on taxes and the increase in exchange rates. "We shall provide cheaper Hajj packages if the government entrusts us with the task," he commented.

Hajj expenses likely to rise under govt scheme

In January, the Hajj Policy 2019 proposed an increase of Rs156,975, driving up Hajj expenses for pilgrims from the north and south regions by 56 per cent and 58 per cent respectively.

The Senate Standing Committee on Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony said that Hajj expenses had increased due to exchange rates and higher airfare.
