ISLAMABAD: The Senate House Committee has been told that at least Rs5.6 million is being spent on the cleaning of toilets at the parliament lodges in the capital.

According to the Express News, the revelation was made during a meeting of the committee chaired by Senate Deputy Chairman Saleem Mandviwala in Islamabad.

The meeting was called to discuss a matter related to illegal shops in the parliament lodges.

“We have learnt that people are running their shops illegally in the premises without valid documents. In the future, tenders will be awarded in accordance with the stipulated contract,” maintained Mandviwala in the meeting.

The Senate deputy chairman also revealed that “at least Rs5.6 million is being spent on the cleaning of toilets at the parliament lodges and even then, the toilets are extremely dirty.”

The chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA) told Mandviwala that if he checked the toilets the next time, he would find the toilets clean and presentable.

“We are spending a sum of Rs1 million monthly on the cleanliness of the parliament lodges’ toilets,” chairman CDA added.

In 2018, Pakistan Agriculture Research Council Chairman Dr Yousuf Zafar had disclosed the presence of over 50,000 rats in the parliament during a meeting. He had said the rats mostly frequent the lodges and cafeteria.
