Fishermen imprisoned in India call for govt's attention

In a letter to their family, the fishermen appeal the government to help secure their release

KARACHI: Pakistani fishermen, languishing in Indian jails for the past 18 years, await their release.

In a letter to their family, the fishermen have appealed to the government to help them return back to their country.

According to the letter, fishermen including Sanju, Usman and Zaman have been imprisoned in India for the past 18 years. They are the residents of Rehri Goth, a small town in Karachi.

The letter was received by one of the fishermen's sister who resides in Karachi.

The fishermen, in the letter, have said that the Indian authorities have agreed to their release if the government of Pakistan submits a request to the Indian government.

They were a total of four fishermen but one of them passed away in 2010.
