QUETTA: The newly-appointed administrator of the Quetta Metropolitan Cooperation (QMC), Ghulam Farooq Langove, pledged on Thursday to revamp the administrative affairs of the QMC, warning that negligence on part of the staff would not be tolerated.

Addressing a news conference, Langove slammed the previous government for its flawed policy regarding the city’s development.

“In last four years, huge funds were released for the development of Quetta city but the money disappeared in corruption. Despite receiving billions of rupees in development fund, the provincial capital gives the look of a tumbledown city,” the Quetta administrator said. He promised that his office would fully cooperate in inquiries into corruption cases.

“To ensure cleanliness, we are going to make functional the solid waste management system in the provincial capital,” he told reporters. “We have hired a consultant to revive the failed sewerage system in Quetta,” Langove added.

He appealed to the trade community, particularly shopkeepers, to place garbage cans outside their shops, which would be helpful in timely disposal of trash.

Langove vowed to launch an effective drive against illegal encroachment in the city. “The operation against encroachment will continue across the city and we have commenced the anti-encroachment campaign from outside the metropolitan offices,” he said.

The Quetta administrator said that half of the daily-wage employees had not been performing their duties. “We have identified 150 absent employees and departmental action will be initiated in the next few days against them.” Langove added.
