According to police, the victims were on their way to work in the bus and just as they reached near Sui Asal, the vehicle turned over. "The incident occurred due to speeding," said police.
Rescue teams reached the spot and shifted the victims to the Lahore General Hospital. Rescue 1122 officials said that the victims had received minor injuries and were discharged after treatment.
The rising number of injuries and casualties due to road traffic accidents is a serious issue. Rescue 1122 Road Traffic Crashes data showed that on average, road traffic accidents claimed at least one life a day. It also showed that at least 13,520 people have lost lives in accidents between 2013 and 2017.
Meanwhile, at least five people died whereas 726 were injured in 663 road traffic crashes in all 36 districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours.
Out of the injured, 399 were seriously injured and were shifted to different hospitals. Whereas, 327 minor injured victims were treated at the incident site by rescue medical teams.
The majority (56%) involved motorbikes. Further analysis showed that 317 drivers, 25 underage drivers, 129 pedestrians and 285 passengers were among the victims of these road traffic crashes. The statistics showed that 193 road accidents were reported in Lahore which affected 201 persons, placing the provincial capital at top of the list followed by 58 in Multan with 64 victims and Faisalabad at third with 53 road accidents and 65 victims.
Around 731 victims were affected by road traffic crashes, including 573 males and 158 females. Their age demographic showed that 111 were under 18 year of age, 406 were between 18 and 40 years and rest of the 214 victims were reported to be above 40 years of age.
According to the data, 482 motorbikes, 108 auto rickshaws, 82 motorcars, 51 vans, 10 passenger buses, 25 trucks and 88 other types of auto vehicles and slow-moving carts were involved in road traffic accidents.
