CDLD programme extended to Swabi district

Rs138m allocated for 102 community projects for 2018-19

The extension of the Community Driven Local Development (CDLD) Programme to more districts in the province proves commitment of the PTI government towards development at local grassroot levels, said Local Government Minister Shahram Tarakai on Wednesday.

He was speaking at the inauguration ceremony of the CDLD Programme in Swabi district. The programme with its focus on sustainable development through active community participation has changed the course of local governance in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, he added.

Following months of consultations and arrangements by the district administration in Swabi, the groundwork has been completed for the extension of CDLD Programme. During the inauguration ceremony, Swabi Deputy Commissioner Salman Lodhi apprised the participants that during the financial year 2018-19, a sum of Rs138 million has been allocated for about 102 community projects to be approved within the different sectors prioritised by the communities themselves.

The inauguration ceremony was organised by the Swabi DC with the technical and assistance of the CDLD Programme to formally initiate the implementation of the provincial government’s flagship programme in Swabi. The achievements of the government of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa in terms of the implementation of the CDLD Programme were presented and acknowledged by the elected members and government officials during the ceremony.

In his concluding remarks, CDLD Programme District Coordinator Swabi, Hammad Ahmed appreciated and credited the district administration and district government officials for their contributions. He further informed the participants that more than 4,000 projects worth almost Rs5 billion are being implemented so far by local communities in a wide range of prioritised sectors in the different districts of K-P.

Under the CDLD Programme, 19 per cent of the total budget will go to women specific projects, while six per cent of total budget has been reserved for livelihood development projects, besides major allocations for community infrastructure projects. Relying on the decentralised local government system, government officials and elected representatives have been assigned key roles to integrate the CDLD approach in development planning at the village council level.

The European Union and K-P government will be jointly contributing Rs9.9 billion in a phased manner until 2020 to sustain the implementation of CDLD Programme in the 12 districts of the province. These districts include Battagram, Buner, Chitral, Dir Lower, Dir Upper, Haripur, Malakand, Nowshera, Shangla, Swabi, Swat and Torghar. The K-P government will ensure the continuation of the programme after the phase out in 2020.

Hammad alam | 5 years ago | Reply Respected sir, it is inform to you that we are residents of Anbar,swabi..in our area there is no street lights on street and Roads while all other areas have street lights..due to this problem our streets and Roads are always dark in night times..this is very critical situation because this is a security risk..our area is nearest to mothorway interchange but concern department still neglect our area..we complained many times to concern department to installed street lights in our area, but no one responded..So,this is a request to you kindly resolve this big problem in humanity purpose..you can also check yourself..Thank you!
