Naqeebullah murder case: ATC provides copies of case to arrested accused

Court orders IO to initiate process to declare suspects on the run absconders

KARACHI: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) provided on Wednesday copies of the case to the accused arrested in the Naqeebullah Mehsud murder case.

The investigation officer (IO), Welfare AIG Dr Rizwan, recorded his statement against the accused on the run under Section 87. The court ordered to submit a report at the next hearing.

Former Malir SSP Rao Anwar, former DSP Qamar Ahmed Shaikh and other accused, who are on bail, appeared before the court, while other accused, who had been arrested, were produced before the court by jail officials.

The IO also appeared before the court. The court provided copies of the case to the arrested accused, Anar, Faisal, Khair Muhammad, Abbas and Akbar. The IO filed a plea to declare the accused, who are on the run, as absconders. The court ordered to initiate the process.

Naqeebullah murder case: ATC issues arrest warrants

The court also recorded the IO's statement which stated that teams for the arrest of accused on the run have been made and letters sent to Federal Investigation Agency (FIA), Investigation Bureau (IB) and other related officials. Efforts are underway to track the accused through their SIM cards and their residences have also been raided. However, fearing arrest, they have disappeared along with their families.

The court ordered the investigation officer, FIA, IB and Railways to submit the report related to the accused on the run, who include Amanullah Marwat, Sheikh Muhammad Shoaib alias Shooter, Gada Hussain, Mohsin Abbas, Sadaqat Hussain Shah, Rana Shamim and Riaz. The court sought the report related to the investigations done under Section 87 from the IO and adjourned the hearing till February 9.

Last year, Anwar, Shaikh and other police officials were booked for allegedly killing four men, including Mehsud, in a fake police encounter in Shah Latif Town on Jan 13.

On July 11, 2018, ATC granted bail to Anwar against a surety of Rs1 million.  Four other accused in the case are also on bail, while 14 accused are in jail on judicial remand. Seven suspects are still at large.

Non-bailable warrants

An ATC issued lifelong non-bailable arrest warrants for 11 absconding accused and former Muttahida Qaumi Movement - Pakistan (MQM-P) Karachi Organisational Committee in-charge Hammad Siddiqi, in the case pertaining to the murder of Liaquatabad town Nazim Dr Pervaiz Mehmood of Jamat-e-Islami.

Jail officials produced Masood Ali alias Kala before the court. The court issued lifelong non-bailable arrest warrants for 11 absconding accused including Imran Aijaz Niazi, Tahir Qadiyani, Zubair alias Pappa, Abdur Rehman Qureshi, Joint Sector in-charge Rehan, Asif Alto, Faizan Ilyas, Sameer Nayi and Shakeel Mota. The court adjourned the hearing till February 7.

According to the police, Ali was also a member of the target killing squad has been arrested and indicted. He confessed to murdering Dr Mehmood during interrogation. Ali also revealed that the attack on the Nazim was carried out on the suggestion of Siddiqui.

Dr Mehmood was targeted near KDA Chowrangi. His friend Khaleequllah was also killed in the attack. The accused targeted the deceased with his target killer squad on the suggestion of Karachi organizational committee's in-charge Hammad Siddiqi.

17 years imprisonment

An ATC awarded 17 years imprisonment to Hanif Dogar, accused in the case of police encounter and attempt to murder. The convict has also been ordered to pay a fine of Rs150,000. The accused will have to stay imprisoned for another year if the fine is not paid.

The accused was arrested in 2018 in a police encounter by Kalri Police.
