Austrian police arrest four suspected of terrorism

Three of the arrested were on their way to training camps in Afghanistan and Pakistan, says ministry spokesman.

VIENNA: Austrian police have arrested four people suspected of terrorism, including three who were on their way to training camps in Afghanistan and Pakistan, the interior ministry announced Thursday.

The three recruits were arrested Wednesday at Vienna airport, ministry spokesman Rudolf Gollia said.

A fourth suspect, an Austrian national, was detained around the same time in Vienna on suspicion of recruiting for terror training camps in Afghanistan and Pakistan and of financing a terrorist organisation, the German Taliban Mujahideen (DTM), Gollia added.

Last month, another Austrian, only named as Maqsood L., 21, was already arrested in Germany, suspected by German prosecutors of recruiting for and financing the DTM, according to media reports.

Gollia noted Wednesday's arrests followed "months of police investigations."

The suspects were being questioned by the national security and counter-terrorism bureau (BVT).

Austria last year passed a law that foresees up to five years in prison for any person attending a terror camp abroad.

Isn't it time we cracked down on the people spreading islamic extremism in pakistan,these religious terrorists have already killed thousands of our people.when will our society wake up and see the terrible damage our perverse obsession with religion has brought us. even when we go to foreign countries we seek to kill the non-muslims only for their crime of not being muslim!! this religious bigotry has got to stop and we should come out of our cavemen mentality and start living as civilised people.

M Ali Khan | 13 years ago | Reply These people leave their dank depressing homelands for greener pastures in the West, only to start feeling hyper emotional nostalgia mixed with following radical terror-cheering mullahs online and in mosques, and decide to make their lives and lives of others as dank and depressive as themselves!
