To protect roads from the effects of overloaded vehicles, the government has decided to start consultations on implementing rules and regulations regarding axle load.

This was decided during a high-level meeting at the Ministry of Communication. The meeting, held on the instructions of Federal Communications Minister Murad Saeed, was chaired by Federal Communications Secretary Shoaib Siddiqui and was attended by senior officers of the National Highway Authority (NHA), the National Highways and Motorway Police (NHMP) and representatives of the transport sector from across the country.

The meeting considered that highways and motorways cost billions to build and heavy sums are required for their repair and maintenance. The members decided to supervise the performance of concerned departments on a monthly basis and further coordinate efforts among all the stakeholders to overcome overloading.
