KARACHI: Following in the footsteps of the Sindh Building Control Authority (SBCA), the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has started to draft a list of commercialised residential plots. The decision was taken during a high-level meeting of KMC officials on Monday.

According to a source who was present in the meeting, Karachi Mayor Wasim Akhtar has directed the departments of land, recreation, sports, culture, Orangi Town and Kachi Abadis to submit a report detailing the original shape and size of the land.

The source said that KMC has sprung into action after the January 22 court orders to reclaim the residential land being utilised for commercial purposes. The meeting concluded with clear orders for all department heads to submit reports pertaining to the KMC land in their respective limits.

KMC had allotted its land as amenity and welfare plots in various parts of the city, which is reportedly being used for large-scale commercial activities. The departmental heads have been advised to issue notices to owners and tenants of the said plots after completion of the report following which KMC will take action against the violators.
