A man posing as an assistant commissioner was arrested on Monday for taking large quantities of fish from vendors in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa's (K-P's) Mardan.
The suspect, identifed as Ismail Khan, would roam the Takht Bahi market and take fish from vendors on the pretext of it being substandard, and carrying out lab tests.
Khan would also collect cash fines from local hotels after suspecting the quality of the fish being sold.
Man arrested in Landi Kotal for possessing fake docs
On one occasion, he seized eight kilograms of fish from an eatery on Malakand road on account of poor hygiene. At the same time, he took Rs400 from a grocery store in the market.
When he tried to do the same at another local eatery, Sher Khan, the owner of the hotel, nabbed him over suspicion and turned him in to the police.
A case of forgery has been registered against him at the Takht Bahi police station.
