ISLAMABAD : The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Monday ramped up pressure on the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and filed a disqualification petition against the party's co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari, reported Express News.
The petition was filed by PTI leader Khurram Sher Zaman and Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Youth Affairs Usman Dar.
Zardari urges political parties to help oust Imran’s govt
On January 21, Zaman and Dar had filed two petitions in the Supreme Court (SC) seeking Zardari's disqualification under Article 62(f)(i) of the Constitution.
However, the SC registrar raised objections over the petitions and returned them, after which the party decided to approach the IHC on the matter.
The petition filed earlier argued that the former president omitted details pertaining to ownership of an apartment in New York City, United States, in the nomination papers filed ahead of the July 25 general elections. He also failed to disclose two bulletproof vehicles, thereby violating Article 62(f)(i) of the Constitution and Section 231 of the Election Act, 2017.
Zardari, Talpur interim bail extended in money laundering case
On January 10, the ruling party retracted a petition filed before the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) seeking Zardari's disqualification. PTI leader Zaman moved the application on party directives after contents of the joint investigation team (JIT) report in the fake accounts case surfaced.
