ISLAMABAD: Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif's counsel on Saturday submitted a petition in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) citing his cardiac condition as grounds for bail.

Nawaz's counsel Khawaja Haris submitted the petition against the December 24 accountability court verdict in Al Azizia reference.

Medical board issues recommendations regarding Nawaz's treatment

A copy of the petition has also been sent to chairman National Accountability Bureau (NAB), accountability court judge and Superintendent Kot Lakhpat Jail.

In addition, the request for suspending Nawaz's initial appeal and sentence shall be heard by the IHC on February 18.

According to the Special Medical Board, the petitioner requires dedicated treatment. On January 25, the Punjab government formed a new medical board, comprising heart specialists, to examine Nawaz's health.

In a tweet on January 21, daughter of the former premier Maryam Nawaz said that her father was unwell but the family was uninformed about his medical condition.
