ATC indicts man in Liaquatabad Nazim murder case

Court declares other accused absconders in the case

KARACHI: An anti-terrorism court indicted on Friday Masood alias Kala, who is affiliated with Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), in the murder case of Liaquatabad Town Nazim Dr Pervaiz Mehmood of Jamat-e-Islami. The court declared the other accused, who are on the run, absconders in the case and summoned witnesses for the next hearing.

Jail officials produced the accused before the court at the anti-terrorism complex in Karachi Central Jail. The court indicted Masood, who denied the charges after which, the court summoned witnesses for the next hearing on February 7.

Those who were declared absconders included Imran Aijaz Niazi, Tahir Qadiyani, Zubair alias Pappa, Abdur Rehman Qureshi, Joint Sector In-charge Rehan, Asif Alto, Faizan Iliyas, Sameer Nayi, Hammad Mota and Karachi organisational committee in-charge Hammad Siddiqui.

According to the police, Masood was a member of MQM's target killing squad and had confessed to involvement in the killing of Dr Mehmood during the interrogation.

The accused attacked the deceased with his target killing squad on the suggestion of Karachi organisational committee's in-charge. He is also involved in the target killing of many people in Nazimabad and Rizvia. Police said that Masood was arrested from North Nazimabad on November 30, 2018. Weapons and explosive material were seized from his possession.

The town Nazim was attacked near KDA Chowrangi in 2012. His friend Khaleequllah was also killed in the attack.
