Irrigation minister says five projects built in Zhob

QUETTA: In order to maintain water table in Quetta, provincial Minister for Irrigation Tariq Magsi on Wednesday said as many as 300 small dams to be built at every 10-15 km of the distance.

He made the statement during a meeting here. Secretary of Irrigation Saleem Awan briefed about planning and development projects.

Awan said that the World Bank has allocated a fund for Water Resource Management and Development Project (RMDP). It includes irrigation, flood protection and drinking water schemes.

Magsi expressed satisfaction over the performance of the department and lauded the services of the officials in the working of the department.

The minister said the incumbent government in collaboration with the Asian Development Bank (ADB) has given approval for the water resource development projects in the province.

Under the plan, Magsi said five projects on Zhob base and five subprojects on Mulla basin would be constructed. Moreover, two fruit processing plants were also part of the project, he added.

The irrigation department would be brought in conformity with the modern-day demands, Magsi said, adding that available resources would be utilised in this regard.

He added that the construction of dams and water related schemes would be completed soon.
