RAWALPINDI: A survey by the district administration has revealed that there are around 1,066 gas filling distributors and agencies in the city which were illegal. They have been ordered to close.

The survey was conducted by the Civil Defense Department of Rawalpindi on the directions of the Deputy Commissioner to trace the illegal gas filling agencies and distributors.

The survey found that most of these illegal liquefied petroleum gas(LPG) agencies and distributors were operating in Murree, Kotli Sattian, Kahota, Kallar Sayedan, Taxila and Gujjar Khan while there are only 400 distributors who had valid licences.

Civil Defense District Officer Talib Hussain said that a crackdown had been launched against illegal LPG distributors. In this regard, red notices have been issued to the owners of illegal centres to shut down their agencies voluntarily.

He added that a comprehensive crackdown against illegal decanters will start from January 28.
