Nine people die in road accidents across Punjab

Majority of accidents (75%) involve motorcycles

LAHORE: At least nine people died, whereas 950 were injured in 807 road traffic crashes (RTCs) in all 36 districts of Punjab during the last 24 hours.

Out of the injured, 536 were seriously injured requiring shifting to different hospitals. Whereas, 405 minor injured victims were treated at the incident site by Rescue Medical Teams.

The majority (75%) involved motorcycles. Further analysis showed that 374 drivers, 30 underage drivers, 152 pedestrians and 424 passengers were among the victims of these road traffic crashes. The statistics show that 190 RTCs were reported in Lahore which affected 215 people placing the provincial capital at top of the list followed by 76 in Faisalabad with 91 victims and Multan at third with 61 RTCs and 64 victims.

The details further revealed that 950 victims were affected by road traffic crashes including 756 males and 194 females, while the age group of the victims showed that 137 were under 18 year of age, 482 were between 18 and 40 years and rest of the 331 victims were reported above 40 years of age. According to the data, 614 motorbikes, 127 auto rickshaws, 92 cars, 38 vans, 14 passenger buses, 25 trucks and 105 other types of vehicles and slow-moving carts were involved in aforesaid road traffic accidents.
