Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar has announced that Daud Khel, a town in Mianwali, will be given the status of a tehsil. He made this announcement during a daylong visit to Sargodha district on Saturday.
In addition to this, the chief minister also announced the establishment of two Rescue 1122 centres and the up gradation of the Sargodha University campus.
While presiding over a meeting at Beeram Hall at Police Lines, Buzdar stated that Mianwali will be made into a model district. “Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) is focusing resources on underdeveloped areas,” he maintained.
A modern transport system will be introduced in the city. An embankment will be constructed on Sher Shah Suri Road to control erosion caused by River Indus. Currently, aspects are being reviewed in order to construct a small dam in Mianwali while funds are being provided to solidify the KasUmer canal, he said.
The chief minister also issued directions to complete water schemes early and speed up the construction of Sohwa-Chakwal-Talagang-Minawali Road and Muzaffargarh-Mianwali Road. He also ordered that Sargodha Road be made into a two-way road. Further, he told officials to submit a report on the Sangial Road inquiry in 12 days.
He added that vacancies at hospitals and basic health centres should be filled immediately. Medical officers should be recruited on a priority basis and local professionals should be given preference, he said. He claimed that the increase in doctors’ allowance will be implemented from July 1.
Buzdar also sought a report from the School Education Department secretary and the Higher Education Department secretary regarding missing facilities in girls’ schools and colleges across the district.
During the meeting, the Sargodha commissioner also gave a briefing on development projects in the district.
Punjab Senior Minister Abdul Aleem Khan, Punjab Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Raja Basharat, Punjab Forestry, Wildlife and Fisheries Minister Sibtain Khan, Punjab Irrigation Minister Mohsin Leghari and other officials were also present during the meeting.
Later, while presiding over another meeting reviewing the law and order situation in Sargodha, Buzdar ordered the launch of a special campaign to apprehend absconders. He added that a separate campaign be launched against those in possession of illegal weapons.
While speaking to the media at Police Lines, the chief minister said that special measures will be taken to overcome the shortage of staff in hilly areas such as Mianwali and Dera Ghazi Khan. Mianwali Hospital will be provided with a MRI machine and the shortage of medicines will be resolved soon. Mianwali’s health and education projects will be transparent and I will personally monitor their progress, he concluded.
