QUETTA: The government of Balochistan has decided to launch a Safe City project in all major and border cities of the province.

The decision came during a high-level meeting on the law and order situation, chaired by Chief Minister Jam Kamal Khan on Thursday, where the home secretary, inspector general of police and Frontier Corps officials briefed the participants about efforts of law enforcement agencies (LEAs) for maintaining peace.

The meeting was told that implementation of the Quetta Safe City project had begun, while planning was under way to launch similar projects in all major cities of Balochistan, including those in border areas.

Centre pledges to give Balochistan its due share

During the meeting, implementation and progress on the National Action Plan, as well as capacity building of police and Levies with training courses under Pakistan Army were discussed.

In addition, security for the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor projects and Gwadar, geo-fencing and locator technology, performance and capacity development of the Counter-Terrorism Department and well-being of pilgrims were also reviewed.

“Lack of basic facilities, faltering economic activities and bad governance were the prime causes of unrest in Balochistan, which has given an opportunity to our enemies of luring youth to pick up arms against the state,” said CM Kamal. The government was taking effective measures to counter it, he said.

The chief minister expressed satisfaction over burgeoning international investment in Balochistan. He said that such ventures would help in providing job opportunities and boosting trade activities.

He also stressed coordination among all LEAs, saying that their presence “should be visible in Balochistan”. He asked the security forces to work on the strategy to counter terrorism.

The chief minister ordered the deputy commissioners to prepare reports regarding residential and other facilities for security forces personnel performing duties in remote areas.

Home Minister Mir Zia Langove, Finance Minister Arif Jan Muhammad Hassani, Information Minister Mir Zahoor Buledi, Chief Secretary Dr Akhter Nazeer, IG Police Mohsin Butt, the FC DIG, Quetta DIG, Levies DG and officials of intelligence agencies were present on the occasion.

CM Kamal also met a young footballer, Ehsanullah, at CM House and lauded his passion for football. The chief minister said that the province was blessed with talent and expressed the hope that young sportsmen like Ehsan would earn a good name for it.

The young sensation was awarded a Rs100,000 prize and gifted a football. “The government is keen to provide facilities to our talented sportsmen,” said Kamal.

Ehsan demonstrated his football skills and played with CM Kamal.

The boy’s videos hit the social media last week where he was showing his football skills.
