Major shake-up in bureaucracy: Establishment, defence get new secretaries

Prime Minister has promoted eight officers to grade-22.

In a major shake-up in top bureaucracy the government made Sohail Ahmed Secretary Establishment division in place of Abdur Rauf Chaudhry.


Additional Secretary Defence Major Gen. Nasir Mehmood has been the given the acting charge secretary of the defence division, according to notifications issued on Tuesday.

The Prime Minister has promoted eight officers to grade-22. The officials are: Humayun Raza Shafi and Ameen Hashim from Police Service; Hafeez Rehman, Imtiaz Qazi, Khwaja Siddiq and Prince Abbas Khan from the District Management Group (DMG); Aziz Bilour from the income tax group; and Mansoor Sohail from the information group.

Inspector General of Sindh Fiaz Ahmed Leghari has been removed from his post on the order of Supreme Court after the extra-judicial killing of a young man by Rangers in Karachi.

Abdur Rauf, a grade-21 DMG officer, has been made Officer on Special Duty.

Fida Hussain will serve as the new Deputy Secretary in the Ministry of Water and Power. Deputy Secretary, Ministry of Communication, Tariq Rashid, will serve as Director National Highway Authority.

In the law-enforcement department, Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Director General Malik Iqbal has been asked to serve as National Coordinator of the Counter-Terrorism Authority.

Dr Waseem Kausar, from Police Service, who is serving as Director General National Police Bureau, will now be entitled to the perks of a grade-22 officer.

National Police Bureau DG Hamid Zeb Khan has been made member of the Prime Minister’s Investigation Commission, according to the notifications.
