ISLAMABAD: Adviser to Prime Minister on Establishment Shehzad Arbab has called for speeding up efforts for the appointment of chief executive officers and managing directors of state-owned enterprises (SOEs).

The adviser underscored the need for early hiring of the CEOs and asked the sponsoring ministries and divisions to turn these enterprises around while ensuring efficiency in governance and decision-making.

In a meeting, he was informed about the progress made and issues faced by various ministries and divisions in the way of appointment of the CEOs on vacant posts of 27 state-owned enterprises.

Earlier, all the ministeries and divisions were given clear timelines for filling the vacant posts of the CEOs.

Arbab presided over the meeting at the PM Office to review the progress made so far in the process of making appointments.

To expedite work, the meeting decided that the cabinet secretary would circulate the cabinet’s decision which authorised the sponsoring ministry to go ahead with its appointment process at the executive level if no response was received from the Establishment Division after seven days.

It was agreed that the Establishment Division would share its surplus pool with the ministries and divisions in order to facilitate the selection of appropriate human resources.

The meeting decided that all ministries and divisions must prepare their advertisements in a manner which could encourage talented and deserving experts to trust and apply for such posts.

The ministries were advised to share updated information with the focal person in the Establishment Division.
