
The parliamentary panel, chaired by Senator Rubina Khalid, was briefed regarding the decision to block unregistered International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI) cellphones indicating steps taken to spread awareness among general public on the issue as directed by the committee in its last meeting.
Khalid said people are facing immense difficulties pertaining to mobile registration and directed the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) to streamline the system.

The chairperson recommended that the duration for the registration of mobile devices, being brought inside Pakistan, needs to be extended by at least two months. Senator Taj Afridi said that higher duty translates into elevated mobile prices.
