Health minister directs to expedite development works in FGH

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for National Health Services, Regulation and Coordination Aamer Mahmood Kiani on Friday announced that the Federal Government Hospital in Chak Shahzad will be upgraded into a modern facility with the cutting edge equipment.

He stated this during a surprise visit to the hospital on Friday. During the visit, he inspected the services being provided to patients and visited the emergency ward and other departments of the hospital.

The federal minister also spoke with patients and their attendants about the facilities being provided to them.

Kiani directed the hospital administration to ensure that medicines are provided to patients without any delay. Moreover, he directed the hospital administration to ensure cleanliness in the hospital.

He directed that there should not be any difficulty in providing treatment to patients.

FGH Medical Director Dr Shahid Ansari briefed the federal minister about the progress of development works in the hospital. Kiani also inspected the ongoing work in the hospital and directed to expedite it. Later, Kiani visited the operation centre set up for the National Institute of Health. He directed NIH experts to pay special attention to research, adding that research was key to stop diseases from spreading.

Holy Family Hospital

Following Prime Minister Imran Khan’s visit to the Holy Family Hospital (HFH) in Rawalpindi late last week, the infectious diseases ward has been converted into a ward for children.

This has created a crisis in the hospital on housing patients of these wards.

The infectious diseases ward has a capacity of 250 patients where patients suffering from disease such as dengue, Swine flu, tuberculosis, and even acquired immune deficiency syndrome (AIDS) patients are kept for treatment. Patients from Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) are treated.

However, after PM Imran saw that multiple children were being kept on a single bed in the children’s ward, he directed to accord more space for children. Subsequently, the infectious diseases ward was converted into a paediatrics ward and 60 children were moved into it.

HFH Medical Superintendent Dr Nasir Mahmood, who had replaced the old MS of the hospital after PM Imran’s visit last week, said that all dengue patients and those patients who were previously in the infectious diseases ward had been shifted to the medical ward.
