National Accountability Bureau (NAB) officials presented Farooqi, who had been arrested in Islamabad after the Supreme Court rejected his bail, before the court. The accused was brought to court without handcuffs and sat in the prosecution office before the hearing.
Court issues non-bailable arrest warrant for Rauf Farooqi
Farooqi had fled after the Sindh High Court (SHC) had rejected his bail. A local court in Islamabad had accepted the accused's transit remand till January 11. He is accused in a corruption reference of more than Rs3 billion along with former federal minister Babar Khan Ghauri, MPA Javed Hanif, Mahmood Sharif and others. The case is under trial in a NAB court.
The court has declared Ghauri and three others as absconders.
The accused were charged with 940 illegal appointments in Karachi Port Trust in 2012 and causing a loss of Rs2.88b to the national exchequer, according to NAB.
