Girl abducted for turning down marriage proposal

Victim’s brother claim police did not take action against the culprits despite lodging a complaint

An 18-year-old girl was allegedly abducted from her house over a marriage dispute in Rahim Yar Khan, Express News reported on Wednesday.

Reportedly, the victim’s brother Tayyab, a resident of Chak No 199-P, Qazi Goth, submitted a complaint at Kot Sabzal police station stating that accused Arsalan Ali wanted to marry his sister H*. He added that they refused the marriage proposal because Arsalan did not belong to their caste.

He maintained that in a bid to take revenge, the accused along with his accomplices Pervez Ahmed, Ahmed Khan, Noor Zaman and Hidayatullah barged into their house and allegedly abducted his sister at gunpoint.

Tayyab pointed out that later the culprits called him and agreed to hand over the girl. The victim’s brother stated that when he and other family members reached the designated meeting point, the accused opened fire on them and fled the scene. As a result, Majid, Altaf and Muhammad Shehroze sustained bullet injuries. The injured were shifted to a local hospital for treatment.

He said that despite informing the police regarding the incident, officials did not take action against the culprits.

Meanwhile, the relatives and family members of H* lodged a protest outside the Sadiqabad SP office and demanded the authorities recover her. After hours long protest, the police registered a case against the accused and opened investigations.

When contacted, Kot Sazal police station SHO told Express News that the girl was not kidnapped and she went with the accused with her own consent. He added that police were investigating the matter.

Earlier, at least two women were abducted in Pakpattan.

In the first incident, I*, a resident of Chak Jhaghan Kend Lal, was travelling with his 15-year-old daughter when accused Amir and his two accomplices abducted the girl and escaped from the spot.

Similarly, a farmer of Chak No 345-EB, was on his way to bazaar for shopping with his wife K* when accused Jalal, Iqbal and Bilal abducted the woman.
