Big City Allowance: Finance, local govt, schools’ secys summoned

LAHORE:

The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday summoned the finance, local government and schools secretaries for non payment of Big City Allowance to the teachers at city government schools.

Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed summoned the secretaries for June 15 and directed them to explain their position and tell as to why the allowance had not been provided to the teachers despite an order issued by the LHC.

Deputy Secretary Tariq Mehmood requested the court not to summon the finance secretary as he had no role in the matter.

Irked by the officer’s answer, the judge said that the court knew better who it needed to summon. The deputy secretary apologised to the court. The petition has been filed by Abdul Rasheed, a senior headmaster at a government school, saying that despite a court order, the teachers have not been paid the big city allowance.
