Fawad Khan and Shuja Haider to collaborate on this year's PSL anthem

'Tera Woh Pyar' hit-maker says he is confident the song will do justice to the cricketing extravaganza

KARACHI:
For the last three years, Ali Zafar was the chosen one for Pakistan Super League's (PSL) official anthem. While the singer made it work just about every time, rumour has it that another acclaimed singer will be taking his spot for PSL season 4.

Can you guess who? It's none other than Fawad Khan!

However, the surprises don't stop here. Renowned musician Shuja Haider will be taking the hot seat as the composer of the anthem.

"This is the first time I'm composing the PSL anthem," Haider told The Express Tribune. "I haven't just composed it, I've penned the song as well. I was given the freedom I require to work and the composition was approved in one go! It's not just one person's job, there's an entire team behind it."

While this might be the first time the Baaghi singer is collaborating with PSL, it won't be the first time he is writing a sports anthem.

Haider had previously worked on Ali Azmat's 2011 Cricket World Cup anthem, Josh-e-Junoon, which was a hit. Other than that, he also collaborated with Strings for one of their famous numbers, Hai Koi Hum Jaisa - which served as Pakistan's official song for the 2003 World Cup.

After a seven year hiatus, the Tera Woh Pyar singer is returning to sports anthems. Talking about the song, Khel Deewano Ka, Haider divulges that the song is just about ready to be released.

"The video is ready, a few alterations in sound are needed and then we'll be good to go." Despite multiple sources confirming Fawad's participation in the anthem, the composer didn't confirm or deny the claim.

A BTS video of the song was also released by PSL.

"It's a funky song," Haider said. "I'll be creating the whole song. We have brought back 80s with this anthem. I'm thinking of touching that era again. There are colours and the song is full of passion."

For the last three years, Ali Zafar has been singing and composing the PSL anthem.

Previously, Zafar had composed the official anthem Ab Khel Kay Dikha for the PSL debut season and Ab Khel Jamay Ga for the second year of PSL, while the third one was titled Dil Se Jaan Laga De.

“Two things that lie at the heart of our nation’s DNA are cricket and music and I am extremely fortunate to live these two passions in this lifetime. As exciting as it is to write, compose and to sing the official anthem for the third time, it was actually quite challenging given that last year’s anthem was such a massive hit,” the Channo singer had said earlier.
