Arrest warrants out for ex-army chief’s brother in Ashiana housing scam

NAB to investigate former ambassador to the US Ali Jehangir Siddiqui

An accountability court on Friday issued arrest warrants for Kamran Kayani, brother of the former army chief Gen (retd) Ashfaq Pervez Kiyani, and others in the Ashiana Housing Scheme scam.

Kamran, who has failed to respond to repeated summons for questioning, is believed to have left the country. The warrants are part of the process to secure perpetual arrest warrants which eventually lead to red notices from Interpol.

Similarly, National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has decided to investigate former ambassador to the United States Ali Jehangir Siddiqui, over charges of alleged corruption in the said scheme.



Siddiqui, stepped down from his post last month on the directives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Asad Majeed, who is currently serving as the country’s envoy to Japan, will be replacing Siddiqui in Washington. Majeed will depart for Washington in the first week of January. Rizwan Sheikh will be overseeing the affairs of the Pakistani mission till Majeed assumes office.

Siddiqui was appointed by former premier Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on March 8, 2018, to serve as Pakistan’s ambassador to Washington.
