10,000 police constable positions lying vacant

KARACHI: More than 10,000 seats of police constables are lying vacant in the Sindh Police department, according to a report prepared by the Sindh Inspector-General of Police. In Karachi alone, more than 2,500 sanctioned posts of police constables are lying vacant while in Hyderabad Range there are 333.

There are nearly 1,768 posts of police constable vacant in Karachi's south zone. Of the 2,561 sanction strength in city district, comprising Lyari and Saddar zones, 1,091 are lying vacant. Karachi police's west zone, which includes West and Central districts, has 997 vacant positions of police constables. There are roughly 672 vacant positions in Malir and 625 in Korangi. There are 36 approved positions in the East zone office against which 73 are posted. The Hyderabad Range which comprises nine districts could not fill 3,355 posts of police constable for several years. Constables were however hired on 3,568 seats out of the 4,222 seats in Mirpurkhas division. There are around 1,656 vacant positions in the Larkana police range while the Benazirabad division has 851 vacant posts. In the Sukkur police range, there are 1,033 police constable vacancies.
