Winter woes: Low gas pressure irks Bahawalpur residents

Citizens unable to cook food, forced to buy LPG cylinders

BAHAWALPUR: With the drop in temperature, natural gas pressure in Bahawalpur has also fallen. Many residents are unable to complete simple tasks such as cooking food.

Reportedly, just as previous years, winter has brought law gas pressures in Bahawalpur. In places such as Trust Colony, Muhammadia Colony, Model Town, the Walled City, Commercial Area and Tibba Badar Sher, gas pressure is either low or almost non-existent. Constant load shedding has forced residents to buy meals from hotels and restaurants, which has become an unnecessary daily expense.

Speaking to The Express Tribune, Muhammadia Colony resident Kamran Shukat said that for the past few days, there is zero gas available during the morning. As a result, he and his children have to go to work and school, respectively, without any breakfast.

On the other hand, Tibba Badar Sher resident Tanveer, who drives a rickshaw, states that he works hard to earn a living for his family. However, due to low gas pressures, he is forced to buy liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders which are expensive.

Farhat Raheel, a resident of Model Town, adds that either gas pressure is low or it is almost non-existent. As a result, she is unable to cook breakfast and is forced to send her children to school without their first meal of the day.

Trust Colony resident Muhammad Arshad says that the hours of load shedding have only gotten longer. People have been forced to use LPG cylinders. As a result, the prices of cylinders have also skyrocketed. “It has become difficult for the common man to afford it,” he highlights.

Citizens demanded that the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) managing director and regional manager take notice of the situation and resolve matters.
