10,000 jobs for youth next month, says Balochistan CM

Vacancies will be announced in both public and private sectors

QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Kamal has said that around 10,000 vacancies would be announced next month in an effort to recruit jobless youth of the province.

Talking to a private news channel on Sunday, the chief minister said steps are underway to end unemployment from the province and the government has been making efforts to come up to the expectations of the people.

Kamal said: “For Balochistan youth, 9,000 to 10,000 vacancies would be announced in the upcoming month. The government has been working on different sectors to provide jobs to the youth of Balochistan”.



In addition to government sector, various other areas are being identified to create job opportunities in the province, Kamal said.

“By working on agriculture, livestock, and tourism departments we can provide jobs to the people of the province. Moreover, we will recruit them in different projects related to mining and others,” he said.
He blamed previous government for not paying attention towards the province, saying that situation could have been different if past rulers had strengthened institutions.

On long-lingering drought, he said relief operations are being carried out in the affected areas.

Kamal said: “The incumbent government will bring revolution in Balochistan”.

He also said Centre supports the provincial government in its ventures for the development and prosperity of Balochistan.



It is pertinent to mention that in the past rulers had pledged the same but nothing came out and the youth of Balochistan were not recruited.

Moreover, in a recent meeting with the prime minister, CM Kamal had raised the job quota issue which currently stands at six per cent (approx 18,000 jobs in federal services).

On December 4, Federal Minister for Defence Production Zubaida Jalal while addressing a by-election rally in Turabt had said “Twenty thousand new jobs will be offered in the coming months”.  She said plans are being finalised under the public-private partnership to eradicate unemployment in Balochistan.

A major breakthrough was the provincial cabinet’s decision in November to lift the ban on recruitment.

All departments were directed to start hiring people on merit. Since then the youth had been urged to apply for jobs while keeping trust on the provincial government.

During the 11-hour meeting, the issue of unnecessary appointments made during the interim government also came under discussion.

The cabinet approved the Balochistan Revenue Authority (BRA) amendment bill 2018 with an aim to increase its potential.

Finance Secretary Noorul Ameen Mengal said the province expected economic growth of Rs400 billion in coming years through trade activities at Gawadar Port.

“The provincial government and departments can deliver for the people of Balochistan if we make efforts,” the CM said while addressing the cabinet.

A new land lease policy for foreign investors seeking business opportunities in Balochistan was also approved. The cabinet was told that opportunities for foreign investment were present in the province but the existing land lease policy did not meet the demands of international companies.
