Police pin hopes on CCTV footage to nab Ali Raza Abidi's killers

Forensic analysis of bullet shells and deceased's mobile phones completed

KARACHI: A special team has been formed to investigate the assassination of former Muttahida Qaumi Movement - Pakistan (MQM-P) leader, Ali Raza Abidi.

Investigation officials have also decided to interrogate prisoners to trace the murderers.

Clifton SP said that the forensic analysis of deceased's mobile phones had been completed and added that the CCTV footage had been forwarded to relevant companies to get clearer pictures for identification purposes.

According to details, a notification issued in this regard stated that the team, comprising South Investigation SP Tariq Dharejo, Clifton SP Suhai Aziz, Darakhshan DSP Mukhtar Ahmed Khaskheli, Clifton Investigation DSP Raja Azhar Mehmood, Gizri SHO Asadullah Mangi, Gizri Inspector SIO Chaudhry Amanat Ali, would be headed by SSP Peer Muhammad Shah and present a report to South DIG Javed Alam Odho on a daily basis.

The notification further mentioned that other police officers from South zone could be included in the investigation team if needed.

Clifton SP informed that Abidi used two mobile phones, both of which had undergone forensic analysis. She said that forensic analysis had also been carried out on the bullet shells found at the crime scene.

She further said that police had acquired CCTV footage from three locations in the route from Abidi's office to his house and added that the footage was not clear enough and had been forwarded to relevant companies.

The clearer images would help identify the people travelling in the cars in front of and behind Abidi’s car.

According to investigation officials, imprisoned persons, related to banned outfits and political parties, will be interrogated and those arrested and released, who were accused in target killing cases, are also being interrogated. Geo fencing of the site of incident is also underway.

Abidi was assassinated three days ago right outside his house in the limits of Gizri Police Station, near Khayaban-e-Ghazi, Defence Phase V.
