LAHORE: Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif has been allotted prisoner number 4470 after being shifted to Kot Lakhpat Jail.

The former premier was imprisoned following accountability court verdict sentencing him to seven-year jail in the Al- Alzizia corruption reference filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

The number 4470 will be Nawaz's identity as long as he is in jail.

The deposed prime minister was initially to complete his sentence at Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi, however, he requested the court to transfer him to Lahore's Kot Lakhpat Jail. Judge Arshad Malik accepted the plea and approved his transfer.

After spending one night at Adiala Jail, Nawaz was moved to Lahore amid heavy security.

At Kot Lakhpat, a team of doctors examined the former PM for about 45 minutes. The medical team, called from Services Hospital, said his blood and sugar levels were normal. The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader was given medications sent by his family.

Nawaz has also reportedly received the religious and literary books.

On visitation day, the PML-N supremo met his famiyl and defence counsel. A list of friends and party leaders seeking a meeting has been sent to him in advance, he will be informing the superintendent of names of those he wants to see.
