K-P govt orders upgrading of sports complexes
Senior Minister Atif Khan issues directives for revamping facilities in four districts
PESHAWAR:
The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa government has sanctioned Rs700 million for upgrading sports complexes in four districts.
“Sports complexes in DI Khan, Bannu, Mardan and Haripur will be renovated under this upgrading scheme,” K-P Senior Minister Atif Khan said presiding over a meeting in the ministry on Wednesday.
“Constructing sports stadiums in every tehsil and revamping available sports venues in districts was part of PTI election manifesto,” Atif added.
Engaging youth in positive activities through sports is part of PTI’s agenda he said.
He directed Secretary Sports Shahid Zaman and Additional Secretary Babar Khan to work for improving the existing sports facilities in the said four districts.
He also ordered construction of a hostel for athletes, revamping the cricket ground, basketball, badminton, and volleyball courts in these districts.
He particularly called for overhauling the taekwondo hall in Mardan Sports Complex.
The provincial minister said that provincial government will also provide resources for the construction of a new sports complex in DI Khan where swimming pool and grounds for hockey and football will be available.
The minister also directed the secretary to construct squash and tennis court and table tennis spaces in the already available sport complexes of Bannu and Haripur.
The meeting was also attended by the Director General Sports Junaid Khan and other officers of sports department.
