Social Media Campaign: Nighat Orakzai joins anti-dowry drive

PPP lawmaker Nighat Orakzai also became part of the social media campaign against dowry

PESHAWAR: PPP lawmaker Nighat Orakzai has also become part of the social media campaign against dowry. Women are uploading photos of their hands showing anti-dowry statements such as ‘Jahez Khori Bund Karo’ (stop devouring dowry) written with henna. Popular television actresses are also contributing in the campaign by posting their photos while some men have hopped on the bandwagon. Nighat said the government should ensure implementation of the anti-dowry act. While the government approves such bills in a hurry, it seldom has profound effect on the ground she said, adding that people need to raise voice against dowry on an individual level.
