PESHAWAR: The house where Quaid-i-Azam Muhamamd Ali Jinnah spent 11 days during his visit to Peshawar in 1945 has been declared as National Heritage Building, said Deputy Commissioner Imran Hamid Sheikh during his visit to the historical place.
All the items Quaid-i-Azam used during his visit were preserved by the owner Khan Bhadur Muhammad Mohsin Khan.
The 76 years old house was looked after by Khan Bahadur’s son Pervez Hussain.
On repeated requests of the Khan Bahadur’s heirs, the house has been declared a national heritage and henceforth, the government will be responsible for the upkeep of the site.
The students of the Islamia College, the volunteer national guards and Sarhad Muslim League members who stood guard for Quaid during his nine-day stay. Notable people of the then NWFP, Sindh, Balochistan, Bengal, Punjab and political figures of the united India has also visited Jinnah during the delegation meetings at this house in 1945.
While commenting on the news, Pervez told The Express Tribune: “We have requested the government to take care of the house as preservation process needs resources which have been finding more and more difficult to afford.”
Pervez said that his elder brother used to take care of the monument, now that he was also dead, it was beyond the resources of the family to take care of the historical house.
The Deputy Commissioner Peshawar Imran Sheikh appreciated the efforts of its caretaker, declared the initiation of efforts for along with ADC & other officers to save the national heritage and lone heritage site of the founder of nation in Peshawar.
He also checked the items under the use of the of the Qauid-i-Azam which included ashtray, bed and others.
