Rangers shooting: Four more personnel handed over to police
Man who handed the victim over to the Rangers also detained.
KARACHI:
Four more Rangers personnel accused of involvement in the extrajudicial killing of a youth in Karachi were handed over to police for interrogation late on Saturday night, the spokesperson for Pakistan Rangers Sindh confirmed to The Express Tribune.
Sarfaraz Shah was shot dead on Wednesday by Rangers personnel who accused him of robbery — footage of which was captured on camera and broadcast repeatedly on television channels.
Sources close to the investigation said the Rangers officials handed over four of the remaining paramilitary personnel seen in the video to police in order to proceed in the investigation ordered by the government and the Supreme Court.
Sources said the suspects would be interrogated at an undisclosed location. “We are in the initial stage of investigation,” said sources.
Two Rangers personnel, Shahid Zafar and Muhammed Afzal, have already been remanded into police custody for five days.
A man named Afsar Khan, who manhandled the victim, Sarfaraz Shah, and handed him over to the Rangers, alleging that he was robbing people in the park, was also detained on Saturday.
