ISLAMABAD: A passenger was arrested at Islamabad International Airport (IIA) on Thursday after attempting to travel to Canada on a fake visa.
The passenger, Shehzada, was shifted to the Federal Investigation Agency’s anti-human smuggling cell.
According to FIA immigration officials, he was offloaded at the airport and the Canadian High Commission confirmed that the visa was fake after which the arrest was made.
The passenger revealed he had obtained the forged Canadian visa by paying 75,000 Saudi riyals to a travel agent.
Earlier this month, airport authorities arrested a suspected human smuggler attempting to flee the country from Islamabad.
The Pakistani national, identified as Gohar Ali, was attempting to leave the country with a fake travel permit for Italy. He was first offloaded from the plane and then arrested.
Ali later confessed to forging the travel permit with the assistance of a human smuggling racket.
Subsequently, the suspect was shifted to the anti-human smuggling and trafficking cell in the federal capital.
