PESHAWAR: Policewomen in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa are performing duties without any gender bias, being exposed to as much life threatening cases as any other policeman.

K-P policewomen are playing their due role in fighting crime and curbing social evils while working shoulder to shoulder with policemen, police spokesman said.

“At least 51 per cent of our population is comprises  women and this calls for giving suitable representation to women in all departments as well,” said K-P police spokesman.

The Police Order 2017 made mandatory formation of a separate wing for women police. According to the police guidelines, female victims will be able to communicate their ordeals with somewhat ease to policewomen. Therefore policewomen have been made an important part of crime investigations, the spokesman said.

Currently 800 policewomen are working in different departments of K-P police. They include an ASP, eight DSPs, two sub inspectors, eight ASIs, 136 head constables, 653 constables and 22 are on ministerial posts.

The spokesman said it should be acknowledged that till now at least 63 policewomen have also successfully completed the elite police commando training.

During the commando training they went through the same gruelling routine like all other policemen taking the course.

The women commandos of K-P police have been divided into different platoons, troops where they fight terrorism and participate in operations against anti-social and anti-state elements side by side with their male comrades.

Similarly many policewomen have completed the training of diffusing bombs and neutralising explosive material.

Being part of bomb disposal squads, these women are required to rush to site on information of bombs, explosive materials and use the skills acquired in training to save the lives and property of citizens.

Their lives are as much vulnerable to terror attacks as any other policeman, the spokesman said. Two policewomen have embraced martyrdom during bomb blasts.
