The Lahore High Court on Friday disposed of a petition from a woman demanding that Aitchison College admit her son to class five, after the court directed the school to allow the child to sit the admission test again next August.
A lawyer representing the school told the court that of 120 students who sat the entrance test, the petitioner’s son finished in 81st position, while seats were only available to the top five students.
At this, Justice Sheikh Azmat Saeed asked petitioner Syeda Mahreen Abrar why she was insisting that Aitchison admit her son. She said that he was a special case because he had earlier gained entry to the school, but had to quit in his first year after his father passed away and the family could no longer afford the fees.
The judge asked her to get her son to sit the test again in August and told the school to entertain the petitioner’s request on merit.
