Punjab Police informs top court of efforts to arrest the culprit

ISLAMABAD: The Punjab police have told the Supreme Court the motive behind the murder of mother and daughter in Jahanian district, Khanewal is old enmity between the parties.

Likewise, the police also informed the court murderers of the duo could not be arrested.

Chief Justice of Pakistan Justice Mian Saqib Nisar on Sunday took suo motu notice of alleged murder of mother and daughter in Jahanian. The notice was taken on social media footage showing the women were allegedly murdered by opponents when they (mother and daughter) were returning after attending court. Taking notice of the issue, the Chief Justice has directed IGP Punjab to submit report within three days.

In compliance of the notice, RPO Multan has submitted a four-page report wherein it is stated Hameed Akhtar Khan reported at the police station on December 8 his sister Asma Javed and mother Taj Begum, widow of Waheed Akbar Khan, were going to sub-divisional courts for following an earlier case of murder.

When they reached near courts, Naeem Akhtar, Amir Khalil and Musharraf Mughal armed with pistols and two unidentified persons were present there as Akhtar and Amir Khalil opened fire on Asma and her mother Taj Begum.

During the investigation it is further revealed there is an old enmity of murder cases between the parties. A police officer namely SI Farzand Ali of PS Jahanian was martyred by the accused of these parties when he conducted raid for their arrest.

A FIR dated December 15 2014 was registered regarding murder of Naeem Akbar Khan, the brother of Asma. Four accused namely Asif, Habib, Khalil Ur Rehman and Musharaf Mughal were nominated in this case. Out of them, Asif, Habib and Rehman were arrested while Mughal was declared proclaimed offender.  Asif and Habib were convicted while Rehman was acquitted.

“We are hopeful to arrest the accused,” the report adds.

It is submitted that in-charge Homicide Unit Circle Jahanian conducted investigation of case adding on receipt of information, SHO PS Jahanian and DPO Khanewal reached the spot.

Keeping in view the sensitivity of the case, four teams of experienced police officers and technical experts under supervision of DPO Khanewal and DPO Vehari have been constituted for arrest of the accused.

“Authorities have been requested to place the names of accused in Exit Control List (ECL).”

The report further stated security has been provided to the victim family of murdered ladies. DSPs Jahanian Malik Ghulam Abbas and Fayyaz Ahmad, DSP Mailsi Saleem Warraich, SI Jahanian Fakhar Imam, SHOs Jahanian Asghar Hussain, Zahid Mehmood and Shakeel Akhtar and SI of Tibba Sultan Pur Zafar Iqbal remained posted but they failed to arrest the accused POs.

Moreover, these police officials did not record case diaries and a departmental action has been initiated against them, the report maintained.
