Allied hospital to get specialists

RAWALPINDI: To improve the health delivery system in the garrison city, all vacant posts of doctors in allied hospitals are being filled on an urgent basis.

This was disclosed by Holy Family Hospital Medical Superintendent (MS) Dr Muhammad Shahzad on Wednesday who told the media that as many as 70 to 80 posts of specialist doctors were lying vacant in the city’s hospitals including HFH, the Benazir Bhutto (BBH) and District Headquarters Hospital (HDQ).

In this regard, Dr Shahzad said that the provincial government had formed a special selection board with the task of filling vacant posts on merit.



He said that highly qualified specialists including professors, associate professors, assistant professors and surgeons have been interviewed over the past three days and that the final list of shortlisted candidates will be displayed within a week.

He said that consultants will also be appointed soon and that they will be offered an attractive salary.

Insufficient beds

The provincial government has taken notice of public complaints about the insufficient number of beds for patients in the three allied hospitals and the Rawalpindi Institute of Cardiology (RIC).

In this regard, a three-member committee has been set up which will be visiting the hospitals to record the number of beds available and the space available to add additional beds, read a notification issued by the Punjab Specialised Health Care and Medical Education Department.



The committee has been directed to draft a report and submit it to the Punjab health ministry.

The three-member committee includes B & A Deputy Director Hammadul Rab, Planning Officer Haroon Rasheed, and Budget Officer Sher Muhammad.

They will be verifying the approved number of beds, space to add more beds and also deliberate on the option of expanding existing buildings to accommodate more beds. They will then submit the report as per the terms of references (ToRs).
